May 2013

This cruise began our month long stay in VietNam. Our drum welcome was terrific and the staff could not have been friendlier. The food was delicious and we thought there was plenty of variety [only of course if you're a fussy eater!]. Tuan, our English Speaking Guide, was a real champion with his witty explanations and jokes. He was so open and honest about his life back home with his wife and sons. Hoped they loved the stickers and lollies, Tuan. He really tried his best, as did all the staff, to make sure we were comfortable and enjoying ourselves. AND, I loved the Tai Chi with our Master on the top deck in the early morning!!!

As we had already done a cruise on Halong Bay with our teenage children in 2007, we decided on the one night/two day option. For us, the trip didn't feel the same; we had had a private boat which took us to quiet places without the tourists. This trip took us to Luan Cave, Titop Island and Sung Sot Cave which we had to share with 'thousands' of pushy loud Chinese tourists. Not the fault of the staff but it does put a dampener on a beautiful trip. Also, we were stunned to see such a beautiful boat painted WHITE. Two versions of why the boats are painted white; because of a boating accident a few years ago and white boats are easier to find in the water and the other reason is because a government official thought that white boats would be more attractive and aesthetically pleasing like the boats in Greece. This ruling about white boats into affect in

We took a 2 day/1 night Halong Bay trip with stayed on the Valentine Premium Junk. Was perfect from start to finish. Picked up from hotel reception in Hanoi on planned day/time for the journey to Halong Bay. Two other couples in the minibus and we stopped once for a break. At Halong Bay Indochina Sails looks like it has it's own 'pier' which looked a lot quieter/more pleasant to wait at than the main one most operators left from.

The boat only has 2 cabins. After seeing some of the larger junks were so glad we chose a smaller one. Cabin was lovely, there was a small dining/bar area and also loungers/chairs (with thoughtfully provided blankets!) on deck.

Food was really nice. Set menus at lunch and dinner (they did ask if anything on it you didn't like and changed it for you). So much food could barely finish it - definitely no need to worry about going hungry. If anything a large set menu at lunch was a bit of a struggle.

Being on a smaller junk meant more flexibility to time arriving at the various sites. On the second day we were first at the caves and so glad we were as you got to walk round in silence whearas by the time we left were hundreds of tourists everywhere and would have been a very different experience.

Weather wasn't great - very misty - for our trip but didn't detract from it at all. Highly recommend

December 2012

We did the 2day/1night cruise. While on the tender to the junk, we were a bit worried as the outside of the junk didn’t look that great (because they had to paint it white to comply with government regulations) but once we stepped inside that all changed. The inside of the junk is very nicely decorated, I can see why it’s rated one of the nicest. The food they served was one of the best we tried in Vietnam, it’s a mix between Vietnamese and western. The staff, in particular Tony and Eric were amazing. The rooms were very nice and comfortable. My personal highlight was going squid fishing after dinner, I was just about to give up when I caught a little squid (apparently not many people are lucky)

I can’t fault anything about this cruise and would definitely recommend it!. The only disappointing thing is the rubbish throughout ha long bay, the government should do something about it.

Absolutely one of the highlights of our 3+ week vacation in Vietnam & Laos. We chartered the Valentine Premium 2 bedroom junk, and thoroughly enjoyed everything on this junk. There were four of us, six staff, comfortable rooms, dining area and a very spacious sundeck to take in the exquisite sites. 3000 islands where every minute practically, the view changes. We asked to sail away from the tourist routes, so we were off on our own enjoying this magical place. Very unique place - and thoroughly enjoyed what Indochina Sails offered. More than enough food at lunch & dinner, respectful/quiet service, and very responsive to our requests. Most enjoyable - at times like a dream!
